Description

Length: 400 m

At the end of the first via ferrata (the end of the first section), a short trail continues up the ledge to the start of the sport via ferrata. The route then continues across the cliff to the right, with increasingly athletic sections, including a magnificent overhang.

You then reach a beautiful ledge with stunning rock formations leading towards a cave. Shortly after the cave, an escape route is available by joining the cliffside trail just below.

The final section of the via ferrata follows a magnificent, fairly vertical pillar all the way to the top of the cliff.

Access: From the village of Freissinières, continue towards Col d’Anon. Park at a left-hand bend where there is a sign. Follow the well-marked trail to the start of the via ferrata.

Return: 1 hour. Take the trail that runs through the cliff.

Recommandations

As with the first section, the rock can be very polished. It is therefore recommended to wear footwear with good grip on rock and to have some climbing experience, as there are relatively few holds.

Fauna
The crag martin
The birds that are constantly swooping around the cliff are crag martins. They are brown with a beige underside. They have built their nests under small overhangs. This species is very common in the Alps. Partially migratory, crag martins return to the Mediterranean coast in winter, where they join resident populations. So it is the first bird to reappear in the valleys of the Pays des Écrins in late February and the last to leave in October!

Flora
The fire lily
In June and early July, the rocks are brightened up here and there by large orange flowers: the fire lily is a splendid plant which grows in the mountains of Europe. It grows in rocky or bush-covered terrain and even - why not? - right on the cliff faces, in dry areas. It is a protected species.
